Global experts assembled in Kolkata to advance precision oncology at GCC – EZOS 2026

KOLKATA: Leading scientists, clinicians, industry innovators and policymakers from around the world convened in Kolkata for the Conference of the Global Cancer Consortium 2026 and the 15th East Zonal Oncology Symposium (GCC-EZOS) 2026, a two-day forum aimed at advancing personalised cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

The international meeting, titled Personalised Therapy in the Era of Precision Oncology: Glimpses into the Future, gathered national and international experts to discuss how precision oncology can tailor therapies to individual genetic, molecular and clinical profiles. Sessions covered recent breakthroughs in genomics, biomarkers, artificial intelligence, immunotherapy, targeted therapeutics, surgical oncology and translational research, with presentations of late-breaking studies and emerging technologies.

Organisers emphasised efforts to bridge laboratory discovery and clinical application while addressing ethical and access-related challenges in precision medicine. Pre-conference workshops on cardio-oncology and cancer genomics were held to update participants on developments in those fields.

The event was the 6th GCC-EZOS, held in association with the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology and hosted by Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and Research Institute, Kolkata. Founded in 1973 by radiotherapist Dr Saroj Gupta as a 25-bed facility, the institute has grown into a 311-bed comprehensive cancer hospital.

Dr Amab Gupta, director of the Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and chair of the organising committee, said the goal was to translate innovation into tangible benefits for patients worldwide. Dr Vivek Rangnekar, founding chair of the Global Cancer Consortium, said the conference was designed to accelerate collaboration across disciplines and borders.
