Business Beat: Christus oncology clinic to open this month in Longview – Longview News

Christus Health will open an oncology clinic this month at its NorthPark campus on Hawkins Parkway in Longview.

The opening follows the December launch and blessing of the hospital’s new positron emission tomography scanner, which the hospital called a “major milestone” in expanding oncology services. “This is more than the introduction of a new piece of equipment,” Kurt DeVaney, chief operating officer for Christus Good Shepherd Health System, said. “It represents our deep commitment to expanding access to world-class cancer care right here in our community. The PET scan allows us to begin offering access to a diagnostic oncology service that currently has limited availability in our community.”

Construction continues on the new Christus Cancer Center at the NorthPark campus, which is expected to open this fall. The hospital said the PET scanner will serve as the cornerstone of the emerging oncology program, enabling physicians to detect, diagnose and monitor cancer with greater precision and speed. Additional oncology technology, clinical staff and support services will be added in the coming months. “This blessing reminds us that technology and compassion go hand in hand,” DeVaney said.

Torque Automotive has opened at 2708 W. Marshall Ave. in Longview. The shop grew out of Harnukin Investment Group partners Jody Kindred, Dustin Harris and Wesley Newman, who partnered with managing partner Tryston Stewart to run the business. Kindred said the partners purchased the Marshall Avenue building for Cerberus, their underground-boring construction business, and converted excess space into the auto shop.

The $2.5 million operation employs about 15 people. Stewart, with roughly 31 years in the automotive repair industry, said Torque Automotive will handle a wide range of services, including engines and transmissions. The shop uses an app to provide customers with electronic updates, photos and live videos as repairs progress, allowing remote approval of recommended work. The facility includes a customer lounge with a sound-proofed area for children. The owners said they hope to expand to additional locations.

Chi-Mac Chicken opened at 1442 McCann Road in the Brookwood Village shopping center in Longview.
