ASTRO Medical Student Fellowship Award

The ASTRO Medical Student Fellowship (MSF) Award offers an eight-week, full-time summer research experience in radiation oncology for medical students, providing structured mentorship and a USD 6,000 funding package. Applications for the 2026 cycle are open; the application deadline is 12 February 2026.

Eligibility includes enrollment in an accredited medical school (any year), with preference given to first- and second-year students. Applicants must be or become ASTRO members (student membership is free) and able to commit to a continuous, full-time eight-week research block under an approved mentor. The program prioritizes candidates with a strong interest in radiation oncology, cancer research, and careers serving populations under‑represented in medicine.

The total award is USD 6,000 per student: a USD 4,000 stipend during the eight-week summer research period, USD 1,000 upon submission of the final report, and USD 1,000 toward travel to attend the 2027 ASTRO Annual Meeting (conditional on submission of an abstract related to the project). Fellows also receive structured mentorship, networking with radiation oncology faculty, and professional development activities overseen by ASTRO’s Workforce Development Committee.
