Princess Máxima Center Named IAEA Collaborating Center to Strengthen Pediatric Radiation Oncology

The Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology has been designated an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Collaborating Center for four years to strengthen pediatric radiation oncology, medical physics and nutrition.

The partnership will support pediatric radiotherapy teams by enhancing knowledge, skills and expertise through joint activities in education, training, quality improvement and research.

The agreement was signed by IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi and Prof. Dr. Rob Pieters, Chief Máxima International, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Máxima.

“I am very pleased that paediatric radiotherapy teams will be able to take what they have learned at the Princess Máxima Center back to colleagues in their home countries, and ultimately to the children and families who count on them,” said Rafael Mariano Grossi.

“This four-year partnership will significantly contribute to our center’s mission, which is the mission shared by pediatric oncologists worldwide: curing every child with cancer, with the best possible quality of life. Everywhere,” said Rob Pieters, Chief Máxima International and President of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP).

Rob Pieters added on LinkedIn: “Happy and proud to share this important step in our Maxima International program to support the development of childhood cancer centers worldwide!”
