Radiation oncologist Shalin Shah, M.D., launched a new academic journal to centralize and share process improvement work aimed at boosting clinic efficiency and staff wellness.
Working full time at MD Anderson in Sugar Land, Shah found he rarely encountered improvement projects from other clinical sites by chance and could not find a central repository for such efforts. After consulting with MD Anderson librarians, he discovered they were developing a broader initiative.
Shah collaborated with the Research Medical Library and the Education and Alumni Relations teams to establish Advances in Cancer Education and Quality Improvement (ACE-QI). He serves as deputy editor-in-chief.
ACE-QI publishes quality improvement projects from across MD Anderson and multidisciplinary teams nationwide, highlighting practical solutions and lessons learned. “ACE-QI shows the possibilities we have at MD Anderson when we combine our expertise for something greater,” Shah said.
The journal is the first of its kind produced by a comprehensive cancer center and reflects contributions from the institution’s librarians and an expert editorial board.
